Your New Medicine Service in Parbold

The New Medicine Service in Parbold is one of the free NHS services that support people who have chronic (long-term) conditions with newly prescribed medicines. The service aims to enhance medication adherence and mainly focuses on specific patient categories as well as conditions.

Why is the New Medicine Service in Parbold important?

This service helps in improving adherence to treatment by a patient. In the long run, it reduces medicine wastage. It also assists in reducing hospital admissions from serious drug interactions and reactions by recognising them early in advance during treatment. One of our pharmacists will advise you on some lifestyle changes that will assist you in managing your conditions. This will be done during your initial consultation.

Who is eligible for this service?

This service might be the best option for you if you just started a new medication for conditions such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Asthma/COPD, or Antiplatelet/Anticoagulant therapy. One of our trained pharmacists will provide this service to you. You will need to provide written consent that allows you to be a participant in this service. They will also give you some general information regarding the service and your new medicines during your consultation. They will organise a face-to-face or phone follow-up consultation, 2 weeks after you sign up for the service.

The follow-up consultation will allow our pharmacist to inquire about your progress with the medication. They will ask about any problems that you may be encountering and offer relevant support and advice. They will also organize a final meeting in the following one to two weeks to make sure that you completely understand your treatment and that you are not having serious side effects.

Next time you get a prescription for a new medication, get in touch with one of our pharmacists. They will confirm your eligibility for the New Medicine Service and assist in getting you an appointment.
